A One-Night Stand for Art & Architecture
Rendezvous a.k.a the inevitable one night stand.
In its second annual launch, ONSLA-2016 takes on a new type of affair with art and architecture: the rendezvous. A fleeting convergence between architects, artists, designers, and thinkers for one night in the rooms of a Los Angeles motel. For the duration of the event, on May 14 2016, our flirtation between projects, objects, and intentions was allowed to unravel. And then it was over.
As active participants of what occurred on that night we look back now to our expectations, our assumptions, our guesses and our desires that filled the day with anticipation — and then to the delights of the night. We hope that you enjoyed this provocative occurrence and that you may harbor the longing for another tryst to come…"

One Night Stand - LA was founded by William Hu, Ryan Tyler Martinez, and Anthony Morey. The show was conceived as a format for artist, architects and all variations in-between to explore vices, provocations, tendencies or questions that kept them awake at night. With gold dipped edges and wandering pixelation, this series inflates, puffs and rips open a delicate tulip. A usually paper-thin tulip is inflated and swollen at the edges, then broken to reveal multiple layers and scalloped scars. The form plays between skin and fat, synthetic versus real.
The binge-ful, almost sinful, fun of having superfluous geometry and excessively slow to render materials are contrasted with fast low sample renders. Renders at four resolutions and speeds are overlaid and selectively erased according to shadow and content. Fast rendering materials are contrasted with slower layered subsurface scattering shaders, giving equal aesthetic weight to a 0.4sec render compared to a four-hour render. Wildflower is a total polycount versus render time binge, in full support of overindulgence wherever possible.
